Draft 4/25/17
1-
Cleveland-
Edge Myles Garrett Texas A&M 6’4” 272 -4.64.
Entire family where big time athletes. Testing at the top percentage of all
categories at the combine and has no character concerns. 3 year starter and production in the SEC. More of a power and athletic pass rusher than
a speed high-motor guy. Holds the edge
very well in the run game. Never seems
to let blockers get into his body always has his arms extended. Very powerful legs which shows when he runs
straight through blockers. Not an elite
1st step and doesn’t have a great motor on downfield plays. Plays with great leverage and almost always
lower than the blocker. Played a lot of
consecutive snaps and when he gets tired he tends to lead with his shoulders
instead of his hands. Only negative is I
wish he played with more energy.
NFL
comparison- Aldon Smith
but with more power
2- San
Francisco- QB Deshaun Watson Clemson
6’3” 221 -4.67.
21yrs old. #1 Dual Threat QB in high school out of
Gainesville, GA. Excellent decision
maker that plays his best in high pressure situations. Good to great footwork. Simple route tree and easy reads for passing
doesn’t get past 2nd read very much. His
best throw is the back shoulder fade.
Has no problem throwing 50-50 balls.
Steps up in the pocket well while keeping his eyes down field. Does not take unnecessary hits except in
National Championship game. Good
anticipation and leads his receivers open.
Does not get sacked often at all.
Player comparison- Kirk Cousins arm with Russell Wilson
moves and game savvy.
3- Chicago-
QB Mitchel Trubisky North
Carolina 6’2’’ 222 -4.67.
#19 Dual Threat QB
coming out of high school in Cleveland and has been vocal about wanted to play
in his hometown. Only 1 year as a
starter. Huge arm and puts crazy
rotation on the ball. Can easily make
every NFL throw. Sub-par pocket
awareness seems to take a lot of unnecessary sacks. Footwork breaks down under pressure and seems
to throw off his back foot a lot. Eyes
drop when under pressure and looks to run instead of looking downfield. He can extend the play with his legs fairly
well but doesn’t seem accurate when on the move. 30-6 TD-Int ratio and is very safe with the ball
when passing, but seems too careless when running with the ball. Routine throws are constantly off the mark
resulting in incompletions or difficult catches for wide open receivers. Seems to be at his best when his team is down
but doesn’t play like a winning QB.
Player comparison- Blake Bortles
4- Jacksonville-
Edge Solomon Thomas Stanford 6’3” 273 -4.69.
Played all over
the Dline and is somewhat of tweener.
Not long enough to be a prototypical edge and not big enough to be a
powerhouse interior guy. Is always in
the opponent’s backfield and is a crazy motor guy. Gets sidestepped by QBs often because he is
out of control when rushing. Elite 1st
step and is always first one off the ball.
Plays smart and diagnoses plays well (screens, draws, trick plays,
etc…). Probably leads the nation in
disruptions in the backfield but doesn’t always finish the play. Splits the double team as well as I have ever
seen. Has no problem being a gap stuffing
dlineman but is at his best when turned lose to wreck havoc. Relentless he does not give up on plays.
NFL comparison- Smaller and faster Ndamkun Suh
5- Tennessee-
WR Mike Williams Clemson 6’3” 218.
Plays to his size
and uses his body well. Loves the jump
ball and back shoulder fade. A+ hands and has good breakaway speed but not
elite. Tends to jump a lot when he
doesn’t have to. Has no problem going
over the middle for the tough catch.
Uses his hands to snatch the ball out of the air, great at high pointing
the catch. Plays angry and fights on all
plays. Moss-like instincts. Very hard to tackle after catch.
Player comparison- Terrell Owens
6- New
York Jets- CB Marshon Lattimore Ohio ST 6’0” 193 -4.36.
Missed all of
Freshman year and half of redshirt year with a hamstring issue, even got hurt
when running the 40 at combine. 35
passes thrown his way this year and broke up 14 of them. Quickest hips I have ever seen and it shows
up on almost every play. Switches up his
technique on almost every play (press man, off man, and bail). His great speed shows up on film and seems to
like contact. Beat deep once after he
tripped with the WR feet and once when he was in perfect position but WR just
made a great play. Sticks to his man
even on extended pass plays, he is like glue.
Runs with WR on deep routes with ease and has an extra gear to get over
the top when the ball is thrown. Seems
to like contact for a CB and on blitzes uses his body well. Only time he gets beat is when the WR
crosses his face underneath. Played
almost exclusively as the right outside corner. Seems to always be in phase and even though
has average arm length his hands are always on the ball. Most teams sent their studs away from him.
NFL comparison- Darrelle Revis
7- Los
Angeles- S Malik Hooker Ohio ST 6’1” 206.
Could have played
D-1 basketball. Only 1 year as a starter
and this will cause problems in his immediate effectiveness. Always around the ball whether pass or run. Plays with a great sense of urgency. Cuts off the ball carriers path better than
he tackles but is still effective vs the run.
Takes poor angles at times filling in gaps for the run. Covers a lot of ground in the secondary and
reads the QB very well. PLAYMAKER and a
turnover machine. Crazy fast everywhere
he goes and sometimes doesn’t break down and misses the ball carrier. No problem with contact and will launch
himself like a missile at any chance he can get, bad technique but perfect attitude.
Great gap blitzing safety because of his
toughness but wasn’t asked to do it a lot.
Not the player to put air under passes against, he covers more ground
than anyone I’ve ever seen. Ball skills
are off the charts. Down 31-0 against
Clemson with 2 minutes left he was playing as hard as ever and laying his body
on the line.
NFL comparison- Ed Reed clone in passing game
8- Carolina-
RB Leonard Fornette - LSU 6’0” 240 -4.51.
No 1 recruit in the
nation coming out of high school. Complete
back that does it all. Pass protection
is as good as it gets, also can catch out of the backfield but is tight hipped
on routes. Plays angry and gets better
and better as the game goes on. Always
positive yards on every run. Can be
patient and set up blocks but can also bulldoze through the hole. Under rated cut back ability and has great
vision. Runs behind his pads and shows
great balance through contact. Top end
speed isn’t elite but is good enough to break 3 50+ yarders in one game vs Ole
Miss in 2016.
NFL comparison- Slower Bo Jackson
9- Cincinnati-
Edge Derek Barnett Tennessee 6’3” 259 -4.88.
3 great years of
production in the SEC. Bends the edge
with the best of them. Great hands and
can play inside on passing downs. Got
the best of Cam Robinson of Alabama.
Great at playing the wide 9, would be great as a stand up 3-4 or as a DE
in the 4-3 which was his primary role in college. Not a great 1st step but goes hard
and fast after that.
NFL comparison- Bruce Irvin
10-
Buffalo- QB Patrick Mahomes Texas Tech 6’2” 225 -4.80.
Father
was a major league pitcher. Good athlete
and had 22 rushing touchdowns. Crazy
strong arm who threw an 80 yard in the air ball on his pro day. Great confidence and attitude. System QB that does not translate to NFL and
is a major project. Back yard football
player that makes plays out of nothing and turns bad plays into the worst
plays. Makes the worst decisions ever on
a consistent basis. Worst footwork I
have ever seen. When he makes a play
though it is amazing.
Player comparison- Jay Cutler
11- New
Orleans- CB Quincy Wilson Florida 6’1” 211 -4.54.
Perfect body for a
corner combined with a linebacker mentality against WRs not so much against
bigger RBs. Great closing speed on
underneath routes. True #1 corner that
can take best WR on every play. Has the
instincts and attitude that he could play safety if he needed to. Struggles tackling strong RBs, goes low too
early and is susceptible to the stiff arm.
Lowers his head and just dives with no arms in open field against backs,
needs huge improvements here. Amazing in
trail technique and great at making a play on the ball at the right time. Not great in zone but a beast in man. Super high ceiling that some teams will have
as #1 corner on their board, speed is one major concern but never showed as a
glaring weakness on film.
NFL comparison- Slower Patrick Peterson
12- Cleveland-
TE O.J. Howard Alabama 6’6” 251 -4.51.
Very long bodied
that looks like he is on the field with middle school kids. Very long armed but doesn’t use them to block,
always leads with his shoulder when blocking close to the line of
scrimmage. Best trait is blocking at the
2nd level. Huge receiving
target that catches the ball somewhat naturally. He is not very elusive with the ball in his
hands and seems to expect to get tackled a lot of times. Sometimes he gets mad and plays that way but
it doesn’t show consistently. He has
very good straight line speed but doesn’t seem to run full speed all the
time. Lined up off the line of scrimmage
on majority of plays so I am not sure how he would do against press man when he
splits out.
NFL comparison- Vance McDonald but better in every way
13- Arizona-
WR Corey Davis Western Michigan 6'3'' 209.
Insane production
from a small school every year since he was a freshman. Likes to block
and is competitive on every single play. Seems to face a double team or bracket
coverage on every play. No problem going over the middle and making the
catch with big hit coming his way. Makes circus catches routinely.
Runs the full route tree and snatches the ball with his hands perfectly.
Plays very smart. Hard to find and weaknesses in his game film, if he
does well at the combine will be fighting with Mike Williams for first WR off
the board.
NFL comparison- Poor mans Calvin Johnson
14- Philadelphia-
RB Christian McCaffrey Stanford 5’11” 202 -4.48.
Son of former NFL
WR Ed McCaffrey. His sophomore year he
put up 3,864 all purpose yards a NCAA record.
Jack of all trades that can line up everywhere. Exceptional WR that could make a career as a
slot WR, however will probably be a day one starter as a 3rd down/
passing back. Great in pass
protection. Seems too small for short
yardage work but is very productive in that role. Natural pass catcher that seems comfortable
running majority of the route tree.
Great 1 cut runner that sets up his open field cuts with an amazing
stutter step. Great stop-start acceleration.
Dangerous in the return game, both punt and kick. Goes all out every play. Best vision and decision making I have ever
seen in a RB. Way too many carries in
his college career even though he never seems to take on big hits. Makes people miss in small spaces and runs
through Dline tackles on the regular.
NFL comparison- Gio Bernard + Greg Jennings
15- Indianapolis-
OG Forrest Lamp Western Kentucky 6’4” 309 -5.00.
Started 4 years at
left tackle but will probably slide to guard due to his short arms. More of a stalemate blocker than a
mauler. Held his own vs Alabama where he
went against Tim Williams and Jonathon Allen on almost every play. He could probably line up at all 5 Oline
spots. Does not give up ground in pass
pro and that will be his specialty, not a blow the defender off the ball
guy.
NFL comparison- Cody Whitehair
16- Baltimore-
Edge Takkarist McKinley UCLA 6’2” 250 -4.59.
Plays all over the
line and blitzes from the Mike spot on obvious passing downs. Crazy high motor every play and always gives
maximum effort. Long arms that he uses
well. Holds the edge in the run game
with the best of them. Amazing to watch
on screen plays as he often catches the back about 10-15 yards down field. Not an edge bender speed rusher guy but a
strong side DE with heavy hands.
NFL comparison- Brian Robison
17- Washington-
S Jamal Adams LSU 6’0” 214 -4.56.
Father was a 1st
round RB for Giants. Great leader and
character. Special teams star for first
2 years. Zero penalties in 2016. Mean bulldog mentality. Great playing out of the slot corner
role. Fills running lanes like a
linebacker but ducks his head too often.
Lives and breathes football and his football IQ is obvious on film. Talks a lot during the game to teammates and
opposing team, is always bringing a lot of energy to the game. Amazing in the screen game and loves playing
in the box. Can play single high safety
but his strength is close to the line of scrimmage.
NFL comparison- Small Kam Chancellor
18- Tennessee-
CB Tre’Davious White LSU 5’11” 192 -4.47.
Slot and outside
corner that is very patient. Lots of
experience returning punts and a gunner.
4 years starting for LSU.
Mirroring corner that does not play physical. Not a turnover guy much more suited for
contested coverage and pass breakups.
Stays with his man all over the field and never gives up much
separation. Does not like to tackle so
he catches the ball carrier. Amazing
trail technique that can close as soon as ball is in the air. Amazing route recognition and goes where the
WR will be a lot of times. Amazing
anticipation on routes and throws, high football IQ. will not fit a lot of teams system due to
lack of physical play. Will not draw
pass interference penalties because he plays with his feet not with his
hands. Amazing quick feet.
NFL comparison- Tarell Brown
19- Tampa
Bay- DT Jonathan Allen Alabama 6’3” 286 -5.00.
Won the nation’s
top defender award in 2016. Great leader
and plays beyond aggressive on every play.
But he is too small to the ideal inside guy and way too slow to be an
edge guy. Plays inside and outside
well. Some medical issues with his
shoulders. Great first step despite his
lack of speed and he maximizes his talent with effort. Definition of team defense and always
controls his gap. Heavy hands than can
control the olineman with ease. Much
better on the inside hopefully he goes to a 3-4 team. If he gets a head of steam he is a
killer.
NFL comparison- Smaller and slower Fletcher Cox
20-
Denver- OT Garett Bolles Utah 6’5” 297 -4.96.
Junior College
transfer that supposedly has turned his life around. With only 1 year playing D1 he is somewhat of
a gamble. Plays mean and has amazing
feet. Can pull with the best tackles in
the NFL and could easily play both guard and tackle spots. Understands blocking angles very well and
seems to always put himself between the defender and the ball carrier. Blocks behind his pads in the open field and
leans forward which makes him miss defenders sometimes.
NFL comparison- Less athletic Joe Staley
21-
Detroit- Edge Taco Charlton Michigan 6’6” 277 -4.92.
Really good spin
move on pass rush but uses it too much.
Plays behind his pads at first contact but then stands up and loses
leverage when engaged my lineman. Seems
to win fast only, doesn’t get off blocks well.
Ramczyk of Wisconsin owned him but had success when he lined up away
from him. Plays mostly with hand down
but seems better when standing up. Bends
the edge pretty well but not consistently.
Solid run defender that has heavy hands but doesn’t use them often
enough. Seems to have 4-5 amazing plays
a game and disappears the rest of the time.
NFL comparison- Stiffer Ziggy Ansah
22-
Miami- LB Rueban Foster Alabama 6’0” 229.
Lost 20 pounds for
his senior year and it shows on film.
Won the Butkus Award for best LB in the nation. Doesn’t make the fastest decisions but when
he does he makes it 100% full speed.
Huge hitter that wants to hurt everyone every play. Great feel for the game that seems to control
the defensive attitude of the team. Elite
special teams contributor. Amazing
blitzer that can time the snap count very well.
Slow first step and diagnosing of play but better than any I have seen
once he makes up his mind. Good in pass
coverage because of anticipation and film preparation.
NFL comparison- Deion Jones
23- New
York Giants- LB Haason Reddick Temple 6’1” 237 -4.52.
Freaky explosive
athlete. Played everywhere on defense
(DE, stand up outside rusher, middle linebacker, and outside backer). Runs himself out of position at times. Great in pursuit and looks the part of a
linebacker much more than an edge guy.
When rushing off the edge he lets the blocker lock on with his
arms. He can hold the edge very well in
run support. Takes him awhile to react
at the snap of the ball, would love for him to just play more but that seems to
be the defensive scheme he was put in.
Does not make very many plays.
Best suited at 4-3 OLB or ILB.
NFL comparison- Eli Harold
24-
Oakland- WR John Ross Washington 5’10’’ 188 -4.22.
Fastest player on
the field every time and it shows on film.
Major knee concerns with a lot of injury history. Dangerous in the return game and shows great
hip movement in and out of cuts.
Favorite route is the fade by a mile.
Lines up outside and in the slot on both the left and right side. Doesn’t always come back to the ball on stop
or hitch routes, also short arms the ball when going over the middle. Good plays and bad plays seem to stack up on
top of each other, needs more consistency.
Great body control and field awareness for tough catches on the boundary
lines. Will block but doesn’t like it, would rather fake a go route in man
coverage (which seems to work because he never gets tired). Finished the year with 81 rec, 1150 yds, and
17TDs. Being shadowed by Adoree Jackson (late 1st-2nd
round CB for USC) he put up 8 catches for 154 yds and 1 TD.
NFL comparison- Brandon Cooks with more shake
25-
Houston- QB Deshone Kizer Notre Dame 6’4’’ 233 -4.89.
Gets through
progressions well. Not the strongest of
arms but better than average. Keeps his
eyes downfield while under pressure, he sees the entire field. Plays very calm and collected but seems to
let mistakes stack up on top of each other.
But when he is on he stays on for a while, very streaky on positive and
negative side. More than capable runner
and throws well on the run. Consistently
comes up short at the end of the game.
When he does hit the deep ball it is a thing of beauty but his accuracy
on the short and intermediate is atrocious.
Player comparison- Teddy Bridgewater with a better throwing
motion but less accuracy
26-
Seattle- OT Ryan Ramczyk Wisconsin 6’6” 310.
Transferred from
DIII Wisconsin at Stevens Point and only had 1 year starting at D1. Coming off a hip injury and surgery from the
bowl game. Great kick slide and punch move. Gets depth quick on pass pro and is already
used to a pro style system, so NFL transition should be really smooth. Handled Taco Charleton with ease. If he gets into the defenders body it is
over. Not heavy handed. Injury and lack of experience are the only
concerns here.
NFL comparison- Terron Armstead
27-
Kansas City- CB Adoree Jackson- USC 5’10” 186- 4.43. Freak athlete that started as a WR, CB, and
returner for USC as a freshman. All-American in track and ran a
10.38 in the 100. Won the Thorpe award as a JR. Small
with short arms but maximizes his talent with effort and athleticism. Will
not be on some teams draft boards just due to size. Closing speed
shows up on film and has great ball skills. Glider that has that
extra gear when he needs it, best athlete on the field at all times. Bail
technique is his best but can run in press man as well just doesn’t do it a
lot. Saves a lot of touchdowns running down breakaway plays. Pro-Bowl
level returner in his rookie year had 17 TDs in his career for USC. Definition
of a playmaker and will cause turnovers but needs more technique and polish for
the next level. High ceiling and low floor as a CB but his
value as a returner helps curb risk.
NFL comparison- Poor man’s Charles Woodson as CB and Devin
Hester as a returner.
28-
Dallas- S Jabrill Peppers Michigan 5’11” 213 -4.46.
Great kid with
amazing personality that has overcome a lot in life to get where he is. Crazy athlete that can do everything, 2X 100m
and 200m state champ. Wants to play
safety but I think linebacker will be where he ends up or a hybrid in the box
safety. Plays almost every position (QB,
RB, WR, LB, Safety, CB, PR, KR all in one game), jack of all trades ace of
none. Needs to go to a team that will be
creative with him. Day 1 starter for
punt and kick return but will probably be a in the box safety. Doesn’t wrap up when tackling just dives like
a missile with his shoulder. Crazy
energy every play. You can tell when he
is not 100% on what he is supposed to do he slows down, will need some time to
understand assignments so he can play full speed. Great bliter from the box. Needs to be in a zone concept or will cause
major problems in coverage. Grabs WR on
routes way too often
NFL comparison- TJ Ward but very raw
29- Green
Bay- RB Dalvin Cook FSU 5’10” 210 -4.49.
Character concerns
big time. Great speed and
elusiveness. Seems to dance too much
instead of hitting the hole. When he makes
only 1 cut he usually gets great gains.
Turnover machine and misses assignments consistently. More of a get in the way guy when pass
blocking. At his best when he is in
space, he can but doesn’t seem to like running in between the tackles. Boom or
bust type of player. If he finds any
space he turns it into an explosive play, definition of a play maker. Lined up some at WR and is a more than
capable receiver. Defenders
underestimate his speed and consistently take bad angles. Has all the tools to be elite but has too
many mental errors, not sure if it is coaching or mental focus. When there is a clear cut hole and he hits it,
it is quite impressive. Needs a simple
playbook and clear defined holes would not want in a zone scheme. Does not lose any speed when making
cuts.
NFL comparison- Tevin Coleman
30-
Pittsburg- CB Kevin King Washington 6’3” 200 -4.43.
Starting safety as
a freshman, moved to slot corner, and then outside corner. Gave up 1 TD on 101 targets against. Off the charts athlete in all areas. Loves to come up in support for the run
game. Is crazy long and plays that way,
gets his hands on a lot of balls. Has a
fit in almost any scheme.
NFL comparison- Richard Sherman but more athletic in
everyway
31-
Atlanta- Edge Derek Rivers Youngstown ST 6’4” 248 -4.61.
Fast off the ball
and plays with leverage. Full yard and a
half ahead of the entire Dline after snap of the ball. Played against lower competition but still
played well against West Virginia. When
engaged with blockers he is always behind his pads with arms fully
extended. Smart football IQ never over
runs the play. Textbook gap control in
the run game. Could teach a clinic on
Stack and Shed technique. Has speed to
rip and go around blockers or leverage and power to go through them. Amazing hands when fighting the Oline.
NFL comparison- Jared Allen
32- New
Orleans- TE David Njoku Miami 6’4” 246 -4.64.
High school
national high jump champion. Absolute
freak athletically. Catches the ball
with his hands well but has random concentration drops. Deep threat from the TE position. Decent inline blocker that puts his body
between the defender and the run gap with good hip movement. Understands complex blocking schemes and is
very effective at combo blocks. Could split out or line up on the line will
fit every NFL offense. Not a polished
route runner constantly is rounding off his cuts.
NFL comparison- Antonio Gates clone
