I just finished my top 100 draft rankings and profiles. I
thought I would throw it up here and see what other people thought. I watched
at least 3 full games of film for each prospect and the top ones many more.
Positional rankings are followed by overall rankings in parenthesis.
CB1 (2) Marshon
Lattimore- Ohio ST 6’0” 193 -4.36.
Missed all of
Freshman year and half of redshirt year with a hamstring issue, even got hurt
when running the 40 at combine. 35
passes thrown his way this year and broke up 14 of them. Quickest hips I have ever seen and it shows
up on almost every play. Switches up his
technique on almost every play (press man, off man, and bail). His great speed shows up on film and seems to
like contact. Beat deep once after he
tripped with the WR’s feet and once when he was in perfect position but WR just
made a great play. Sticks to his man
even on extended pass plays, he is like glue.
Runs with WR on deep routes with ease and has an extra gear to get over
the top when the ball is thrown. Seems
to like contact for a CB and on blitzes uses his body well. Only time he gets beat is when the WR
crosses his face underneath. Played
almost exclusively as the right outside corner. Seems to always be in phase and even though he
has average arm length his hands are always on the ball. Most teams sent their studs away from him.
NFL comparison- Darrelle Revis
CB2 (10) Quincy
Wilson- Florida 6’1” 211 -4.54.
Perfect body for a
corner combined with a linebacker mentality against WRs not so much against
bigger RBs. Great closing speed on
underneath routes. True #1 corner that
can take best WR on every play. Has the
instincts and attitude that he could play safety if he needed to. Struggles tackling strong RBs, goes low too
early and is susceptible to the stiff arm.
Lowers his head and just dives with no arms in open field against backs,
needs huge improvements here. Amazing in
trail technique and great at making a play on the ball at the right time. Not great in zone but a beast in man. Super high ceiling that some teams will have
as #1 corner on their board, speed is one concern but never showed as a glaring
weakness on film.
NFL comparison- Slower Patrick Peterson
CB3 (15) Kevin
King- Washington 6’3” 200 -4.43.
Starting safety as
a freshman, moved to slot corner, and then outside corner. Gave up 1 TD on 101 targets against. Off the charts athlete in all areas. Loves to come up in support for the run
game. Is crazy long and plays that way,
gets his hands on a lot of balls. He
will fit in almost any scheme. Very raw
athleticism that has a very high ceiling.
Great use of long arms and has maybe the play of the year on a one
handed interception against Arizona ST.
NFL comparison- Richard Sherman but more athletic in
everyway
CB4 (23) Tre’Davious
White- LSU 5’11” 192 -4.47.
Slot and outside
corner that is very patient. Lots of
experience returning punts and a gunner.
4 years starting for LSU.
Mirroring corner that does not play physical. Not a turnover guy much more suited for
contested coverage and pass breakups.
Stays with his man all over the field and never gives up much
separation. Does not like to tackle so
he catches the ball carrier. Amazing
trail technique that can close as soon as ball is in the air. Amazing route recognition and goes where the
WR will be a lot of times. Amazing
anticipation on routes and throws, high football IQ. Will not fit a lot of teams system due to
lack of physical play. Will not draw
pass interference penalties because he plays with his feet not with his
hands. Amazing quick feet.
NFL comparison- Tarell Brown but better
CB5 (24) Adoree
Jackson- USC 5’10” 186- 4.43.
Freak athlete that
started as a WR, CB, and returner for USC as a freshman. All-American in track and ran a 10.38 in the
100. Won the Thorpe award as a JR. Small with short arms but maximizes his
talent with effort and athleticism. Will
not be on some teams draft boards just due to size. Closing speed shows up on film and has great
ball skills. Glider that has that extra
gear when he needs it, best athlete on the field at all times. Bail technique is his best coverage style, but
can run in press man as well just doesn’t do it a lot. Saves a lot of touchdowns running down
breakaway plays. Pro-Bowl level returner
in his rookie year had 17 TDs in his career for USC. Definition of a playmaker and will cause
turnovers but needs more technique and polish for the next level. High ceiling and low floor as a CB but his
value as a returner helps curb risk.
NFL comparison- Poor man’s Charles Woodson as CB and
Devin Hester as a returner
CB6 (30) Marlon
Humphrey- Alabama 6’0” 197 -4.41.
State champ
hurdler and sprinter. Very physical and
uses his hands very well. Bullies soft
WR and takes every chance he can to hit them during the play. Gets beat deep too often. Susceptible to double moves because he is so
aggressive. Will be limited to cover 2
defensive schemes because he gets beat deep a lot. At his best within 15 yards of the line of
scrimmage. Good coverage vs Mike
Williams in championship but Williams still made all the difficult catches and
drew 2 pass interference calls against him.
NFL comparison- Devin McCourty
CB7 (31) Gareon
Conley- OSU 6’0” 195 -4.44.
Recent news about
a possible rape will destroy his draft stock.
Decent height but very long armed.
Prefers bail technique and plays well with his feet instead of his
hands. In good position on the deep ball
but gets boxed out by bigger WR. Chris
Godwin of Penn ST had his way with him because he doesn’t play the ball when it
is in the air. Does not seem to like
contact and pulls down ball carriers instead of tackling. Great in the nickel role and is probably
where he will start in NFL. Gets pushed
around by WR in the run game, does not get off blocks well. Had his best game against Indiana he can
dominate against lesser athletic WR not sure how that will play out at the next
level. Not a playmaker but is always in
position. Will never be a #1 corner but
should have a long career as #2 or nickel corner.
NFL comparison- Phillip Gaines with more upside
CB8 (49) Jourdan
Lewis- Michigan 5’10” 188 -4.54.
Perfect attitude
and demeanor of a CB but it way too small for a lot of teams. Will be a nickel day 1 and might be able to
play outside against smaller WRs. Great trail
technique and does well against taller WRs.
Great form tackler despite his size, leads with facemask and drives
through ball carrier. Will have a long
career as a nickel because of his attitude and disciplined play.
NFL comparison- Jimmy Ward
CB9 (58) Cordrea
Tankersley- Clemson 6’1” 199 -4.40.
Not a great
athlete but has good straight line speed with height and long arms. Great when the ball is in the air and his
length shows up on film. Dominated both
Isaiah Ford and Bucky Hodges in ACC championship game and had 2 picks in the
game. Great closing speed and is a
football player that shows up in big games.
Level 10 awareness that makes a lot of plays on tipped balls and helping
out teammates when the ball is in the air.
NFL comparison- Dre Kirkpatrick
CB10 (59)
Rasul Douglas- West Virginia 6’2” 209 -4.59.
Juco
transfer. Led the nation with 8
interceptions. Bad 40 time but almost
ran down DeDee Westbrook in open field who ran a 4.38. Built to play press-man but is better at bail
technique. Will tackle but doesn’t seem
to like it. Crazy ball skills and will
be able to transition to safety if CB doesn’t work out.
NFL comparison- James Bradberry with better ball skills
CB11 (66)
Sidney Jones- Washington 6’0” 186 -4.47.
Tore his Achilles
at his pro day and will miss all of next year. Only 48 passes thrown his way all
year. Great press corner that makes the
game look easy. Was not tested much in
games because teams where afraid of him.
Plays mean and frustrates WRs with his jam. Would have been my #2 CB if healthy but will
fall to the 3rd round or later now.
NFL comparison- Marcus Peters without the character
concerns
CB12 (67)
Fabian Moreau- UCLA 6’0” 206 -4.35.
Converted RB for
UCLA. Tore his pec at his pro day and
will drop considerably in the draft.
Built different than most corners but doesn’t seem to impose his
physical skill set on WR. Should play
the bully role a lot more. Crazy speed
shows up on film. He and JUJU had an
epic game against each other where they both had great and bad plays. Would be #4 CB if heathy.
NFL comparison- Aquib Talib if he gets meaner
CB13 (75)
Chidobe Awuzie- Colorado 6’0” 202 -4.43.
Big bodied stiff
CB that tested well in the 40 but it doesn’t show on film. Willing tackler and likes contact but stops
his feet before contact and leaps making him miss the ball carrier too
often. Maintains outside contain well in
the run game. Nickel corner in the NFL
and had most of his success in that role for Colorado. Great cover corner for about 4 seconds but if
the play gets extended he seems to always loose his man looking in the
backfield. Good blitzing out of the
slot.
NFL comparison- Prince Amukamara
CB14 (98)
Teez Tabor- Florida 6’0” 199 -4.62.
Character concerns
with failed drug tests and fights with teammates. Not a good athlete at the combine and testing
in the bottom 10% of almost all categories.
Shuffle zone corner that is at his best when breaking on inside
routes. Pulls WR jerseys consistently,
will be flagged for a lot of penalties at the next level. Could have been flagged for holding on almost
every play. Does not tackle at all, he
seems happy to just be around the pile.
Zone or bust for Tabor but he doesn’t help in the run game at all so I
would not be shocked if he goes day 3.
His saving grace is his 9 picks in his career. Will drive coaches and fans crazy on and off
the field.
NFL comparison- Asante Samuel
